This watch will be supplied with the original inner and outer presentation boxes and our Certificate of Authenticity. The boxes are not in great condition – the cardboard outer is faded and torn, and the wooden inner box is good on the outside but scruffy on the inside.
The case is good, with nice thick lugs (these watches are too often overpolished, leaving pointy lugs), albeit the bezel has a few dings. Along with the date, the Oyster case is how the model becomes and Oysterdate – these Oyster cases were waterproof, helped by the screw down case back and screw down signed crown. A slight criticism would be the date sits just slightly out of centre, but the open 6 and 9 date wheel is always nice to see on older Rolex. The movement is the calibre 1215, which has just been serviced and is running well. While it is worn it certainly is not worn out, and should provide years more service.
The leather strap is made from Lizard, stamped for Rolex and carries a Rolex steel buckle too. The dial may be original but it is showing some pitting, hardly noticeable at first but it is there. Many were sold on bracelets, fitting for a sports watch, so the strap is an unusual find. Finding one with an original black dial, on the original strap, is not common at all. The Oysterdate in 6694 specification was around for a long time, and was a good seller, so there are not uncommon. Model reference 6694.įrom the serial number between the bottom lugs and the production stamp on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1964. Still on the Rolex lizard strap, this Oysterdate has just been serviced.
